IIM Mumbai - Eligibility Criteria (2024)

PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES FOR THE PROGRAM:

The program aims to admit individuals with sound academic background, strong motivation and potential to become excellent researchers at National and International level. A candidate can apply under the following categories:

Regular Full-time:

Candidates with financial Assistance: Financial assistance shall be provided only to the regular full-time candidates as per guidelines and no financial assistance shall be provided to the sponsored candidates. To be eligible for financial assistance the candidate must have qualified GATE/CAT/GMAT/ GRE/UGC-JRF and shall have valid score. Minimum score of the qualifying exam to be eligible for stipend: GATE - 650/1000 GRE - 300/340 CAT - 90 percentile GMAT - 650/800 Financial assistance shall be provided to the regular full-time candidates only.

Candidates without financial Assistance: A student in this category works full-time for his/her Fellow Degree. He/she does not receive assistant-ship from the Institute.

  • Candidates can apply for admission to Fellow Program twice a year against the advertisem*nt released by the Institute.

Sponsored:

Full Time Sponsored: A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R & D organization, Academic Institute, government organization or Industry for doing research work in the Institute on a full-time basis. The Institute does not provide any assistantship /Fellowship to such a student.

Part Time Sponsored: A student in this category is professionally employed person, who pursue the Fellow Program while continuing the duties of his/her service. The Institute does not provide any assistantship /Fellowship to such a student. The research work leading to Fellow Degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization under the overall guidance provided by a faculty member of the Institute along with a local guide from the organization, if required. Such candidates, if selected, have to stay on the campus for one-year regular coursework.

  • Candidates can apply for admission to Fellow Program twice a year against the advertisem*nt released by the Institute.

Fellow Program for Industry Professionals (FPIP)

FPIP candidates from any of the following sectors are invited to apply for the “Fellow Program for Industry Professionals”:

Officer/ Executive level employees of All India Services/ Central Government (Ministry of Defence, and all other Ministries and Departments)/ State Governments /Public Sector Undertakings/ Autonomous Bodies

Individuals with rich Managerial experience from reputed Private Organizations. Such Organizations shall be listed in the premier Stock Exchanges and shall have an annual turnover of at least 200 crore rupees.

There would be no residential requirements for such candidates. However, the candidate has to spend at least one week per semester at IIM Mumbai, interacting with his supervisor(s). During this period, students may avail hostel facilities if available on actual payment basis.

Candidates should preferably have demonstrated research potential through research papers in reputed International Conferences/ Journals/ Patents/ Technology transfer.

  • Candidates can apply for admission to Fellow Program twice a year against the advertisem*nt released by the Institute.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS:

Regular Full Time:

Candidate with Fulltime Master's in Management, Economics, degree or Commerce, equivalent in Engineering/ Social Sciences, Life sciences Technology, and Pure Sciences with 60% aggregate marks (55% in case of SC/ST/PwD (Person with Disability) candidates) from recognized University/ Institution can apply. Candidates appearing for their final examination in the respective disciplines can also apply, provided they qualify the above criteria for examinations appeared at the time of application and submit their result latest by September 30, For July Cycle and March 30, for January cycle. Projects/ Work Experience/Research Publications in these areas would be preferred. As per Govt. of India rules, reservation of seats exists for SC/ST/OBC-NC (Non-Creamy) and PwD candidates.

Sponsored:

In addition to the above eligibility criteria, candidates from reputed Industry/ Academia must have two years of full-time work experience as on last date of application i.e., March 31, For July Cycle and September 31, for January cycle. Part time sponsored candidates, if selected, must stay in the campus for one-year regular course work. Full time and part time sponsored candidates need to produce sponsorship certificate (at the time of application) and relieving certificate (at the time of joining) from the employer as per the pro-forma available on the IIM Mumbai website. No financial assistance shall be provided to the sponsored candidates.

Fellow Program for Industry Professionals FPIP:

Graduates of any Master level Program (Full Time - 2 years or equivalent) from any IIMs/ IITs/ NITs or national level institutions with minimum CGPA 8.0 out of 10 or 75 percentage of marks, with at least 3 years of professional experience (as defined in Clause 1 above), after Master’s degree. Such candidates should possess minimum CGPA 8.0 out of 10 or 75 percentage of marks also in their Bachelors.

OR

Fulltime Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Commerce, Social Sciences, and Sciences from any recognized University/ Institution with minimum CGPA 7.0 out of 10 or 65 percentage of marks, with at least 4 years of professional experience (as defined in Clause 1 above), after Master’s degree. Such candidates should possess minimum CGPA 7.0 out of 10 or 65 percentage of marks also in their Bachelors.

OR

Candidates having BTech/BE or equivalent degree from IITs/ NITs or other national level institutes with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10 or 75 percentage of marks, with at least 4 years of professional experience (as defined in Clause 1 above), after Bachelor’s degree.

Provision for SC/ST/PWD candidates will be carried out as per Government of India Norms.

The upper age limit is 50 years at the time of application. However, preference will be given to younger candidates.

All other rules, as per the Fellow Policy, will also be applicable for candidates under the category of Industry Professionals.
