I'm looking at buying an MP5 SD .22LR. I've seen some pretty good reviews about the Walther model imported by Umarex, and I'm leaning towards getting one of those.

What are my options to put a picatinny rail on this thing? Also, is there a specific tri-rail forearm that will work with the larger SD barrel shroud?

The Umarex model is far higher quality than the GSG in my experience, even though you didn't ask about it. I got one (Umarex) cheap and was actually surprised that is was accurate (for what it is) and was reliable. However, it was the hardest SBR I have ever done, since the barrel is a barrel liner.

I just bought one of these about a month and a half ago or so, It is a pretty accurate shooter and a lot of fun. Just some thoughts from my exp with this rifle so far, after the first time i shot it, the extendable stock started to wobble a little up and down and not stay tight. This of course messes with your sights and accuracy. I've read others had the same problem and besides that, its not the most comfortable to shoot with anyway. I went ahead and bought the fixed but stock for it and it completely fixed the problem. No play at all and its much more comfortable. If you go to the walther website for these it will give you the part number and you can google it. They are commonly sold on many different sites like Midway, cheaper than dirt, brownells and many others. They run anywhere from 35 to 50 bucks depending on the vendor. I started a thread about a month ago on this as well for scope mounts. I will past the link below. The basic summary is, there are many out there that say they are made for it but some don't fit right so its kind of trial and error unless you want to pay 99 bucks for the H&K branded one which personally i didn't want to put that much into a mount on a gun I paid 500 bucks for. But there are some cheaper ones that work. I still haven't gotten around to ordering one yet so I can't say first hand yet. I'm still having fun with it on open sites honestly. Good luck and if you don't mind post back what you end up going with on the rail and I'll do the same if I get one first.

Thanks

I put one of these on my GSG-5 MP5 .22 scope mount, HK scope mount 22, Umarex scope mount, HK MP5 scope mount - HKPARTS.NET They advertise it to be compatible with all the MP5 .22s. That site also shows a tri rail forend UTG MP Metal Tri-rail System - HKPARTS.NET . It should work with the SD model.

$100 for a clamp on rail seems excessive, I've found ones on Amazon for $9. I'll try that route before I shell out that much.

The UTG tri rail specifically says it doesn't work on the SD model, btw: "Does NOT fit the GSG-5 Or MP5 SD .22 Models."

I had the chance to hold a GSG model at Academy... it did not have the same feel of quality as the Walther model.
