Literally the worst prepaid card I have ever used. The customer service department put me on hold for over 30 minutes multiple times and had no clear answers for me about my account, just super vague statements. It's not helpful to say someone's behavior is lacking, but that doesn't explain what is going on. That's the vague statement I would like to say about NetSpend. Their service is lacking, and that's all the information I can give. I would have given no stars but it isn't an option.

Absolutely, the worst financial institution I have had the displeasure of dealing with. This is the second time in the last couple of months that I go to log into the Netspend app and am denied access. I call customer service, which informs me that there is a restriction on the account. I get transferred to the fraud department. They say they have to verify my identity. The knowledge of my account info, security questions, etc., is not enough; so, I have to verify with an official ID. I go through that [process; that's still not enough. Then they have to use physical mail. It took me six different documents/tries to get that approved. They have all this on file. And here today, the same thing, except I'm not home. I can't get home because I can't access my account. I try to explain this to them to no avail. I ask to speak to a manager; they won't let me. Yet, they would let me close the account. How does that make sense? They will give me enough access to close it; doesn't that mean they believe I am who I claim to be? Absolutely ridiculous!!! And shameful. Stay away from Netspend!

My card information was somehow stolen and fraudulently used. I contacted Netspend and provided them with documentation on 5/23/2024, but they are telling me they can't refund my money.

If you are certain you will use your Netspend card every month, then it is just fine and functions like a debit card. If you do not intend on frequent use, do not use this card, as there is a high maintenance fee for inactivity. I do not recommend giving it as a gift; you are better off giving a gift card or a check (if the recipient has an account to deposit into) so they can use the funds when needed.

Total rip-off. Every time you make a purchase, it charges you $1.95. My Wisely is way better. Do not use this card. I loaded the card and couldn't understand why I was always missing money. Then I found out about the charges. Total rip-off.

This company is a scam! I was due a refund that they claimed they mailed, but they knew they didn't. They tried to say it was cashed. However, I have informed delivery through the post office, and the check they claimed they mailed never arrived. They provided me with two check numbers that exactly matched, claiming they printed them at different times. Yet, two checks can never have the exact same number. I've been requesting a copy of the supposedly "cashed" check for almost $8,000. But they refuse to provide it to me. They stole ALOT of money from me claiming it’s been cashed at by their EMPLOYEES OBVIOUSLY!

Customer for 12 years, and then all of a sudden, my account is hacked twice in a matter of five months! This company does not care if you're a long-term customer; they don’t care about anyone! I will never give this company another dime of my money! I can't even put into words how disgusted I am with NetSpend! When you call the customer service line, just be prepared to be hung up on multiple times and to wait for over an hour to speak to a "Supervisor" (and that's using that term loosely). It took me from 11:30 am, which is when I discovered my account was hacked, to 5:45 pm to get my account closed and have another reopened, just so I can have access to my money to pull it out and close the account. They give you no option to transfer your funds to an outside bank. But this is the best part: I now have to wait ten whole business days before I will receive my new debit card. So I have zero access to my money until I receive this card. Because as you know, NetSpend is a virtual bank, and they have no location that you can just pop into and withdraw money. This has become absolutely the most frustrating situation I've ever had to experience with a business. I’ve definitely learned my lesson. I should have learned it the first time my account was hacked in November 2023, which was only six months ago. But like I said, I had been a customer since 2012 and had never had one issue before. So when it got hacked the first time, I thought it was just a fluke or random incident. But the way that this company operates, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were the ones hacking my account. I am convinced they are working against me and for the people who tried to steal my money. Personally, I feel they should be shut down!

Netspend is horrible, even with prepaid cards. Never again will I use Netspend. I'll consider options like Chime and VISA Prepaid. How can you pay six dollars for a prepaid card, only to get charged extra fees? I tried to clear the card of $1.50 so I could dispose of it, but they wouldn’t let me, so they took the last $1.50 as well. Never again will I use Netspend.

Someone stole $1,300 from my mom. They said that "because my mom has used that ATM before, there's nothing they can do," after they sent her new card to the wrong address, despite her having changed her address months ago without issue. This has started a downward spiral. Our landlord is talking of eviction. They have really wronged us; they must have disclosed my mom's Social Security number, because the perpetrator opened two accounts under her name again.

Never again, as their customer service is a joke. They help no one but themselves. Concerning my money—your money—look at all the reviews. They kept my income tax check of over $3,700, that's right, alleging I was engaging in fraudulent activity when they received it via direct deposit into my account, which then got restricted. I couldn't use it. They kept telling me to send the verification documents they requested. I complied, calling all day long for three days, to see if they had received the emails. Then Google sends me an email stating that NetSpend was rejecting my emails. Shady—who is really engaging in fraudulent activity here? Firstly, that's a government-issued check; you don't mess with the government. Secondly, why would you reject my emails? I sent them again using a girlfriend's email, and what do you know, they got it and still were reluctant to release my money. They wanted to know the contents of the documents I sent. I told her it was my ID, front and back, and proof of address. She claimed there was another document, insisting we couldn’t lift the restriction unless I identified it. However, the original request was only for my ID and proof of address; the additional question is irrelevant. I complied; now you should release the money.

Nope. So then, I used my father's email and resent the so-called documents: ID front and back, a voter registration card for 2024 with my address, health insurance statements, a Capital One bill, and a Department of Human Services denial letter from February 2024. Then they put a restriction as I was still on the phone with the representative—someone started withdrawing money from my account, showing up on my phone's anytime alerts and the rep's computer screen. The first withdrawal was for $480.00, the second was $267.00, and she put a block on the card, but then again, $2,847.00, and she blocked the account. She transferred $759 to another card I had in a different account and said that's all she could do; I have to call again tomorrow to transfer another $750 until it's all moved. But when I called today, they had closed my account for, and I quote, 'Fraudulent activity.' I haven't even been able to spend my money. They are the fraudulent ones, with them blocking emails and not answering calls, etc.

But I am contacting consumer affairs, the IFDC, and any other agency I can, to shut these thieves down. They kept all of my money, $3,747.00, which is my income tax refund. Oh, they’ve not heard the last of me, and they will know who I am very soon. They said they couldn't verify who I was, but soon they will. I am fed up with this. You will be closed and will pay the penalty under the law for what you're doing. You guys shouldn't be in business. And if you don't fear the law, then you should fear karma and God. I have nothing to hide, but you guys do. I say let's all get together a do a class action lawsuit against the whole Metabank and NetSpend corp or whatever who's with kne ?? Email me [emailprotected]

What a terrible company. I will never buy this product again. It is just like every other company that is misleading, difficult to set up, and I can't even activate the card that I paid money for.

Someone used my account fraudulently for $1,300, and all they can do is say sorry for the inconvenience. Then they told me to bank elsewhere. So, I have to scramble to find a new bank. Stay away from this card. I would give them zero stars, but it won't let me.

NetSpend is the worst; they blocked my card for no reason and then told me they can't unblock it, using the excuse that they can't find my account. I have all my correct information. They are nothing but scam artists; never use NetSpend.

Netspend shut down my payroll card on March 18th, and as of today, the refund has still not been returned to me. Yet, they sent me five new cards, which I didn't activate, all of different types, and advised me they were stolen. I have every one in my possession because I didn't request a new card. Today, after five phone calls, they told me to give them 24-48 hours to see where the check is. I have already waited over three weeks, and they couldn't provide a tracking number.

Well, I just tried to post a review about how Netspend has kept my 620 dollars. It was very detailed, but they won't let it post! Here I go AGAIN. I hope someone reads this and benefits from it. I used their card for a copay at Phoenix Children's Hospital. My personal account had been compromised. We were in the process of waiting for new bank cards from our bank. My 16-year-old was diagnosed with melanoma; they found it on the back of her calf. Our copay was high because we were out of network, even though we have a very common insurance, BCBS. They called two days prior to her appointment to collect our copay, since it was going to be high. We paid it, but in the meantime, we looked with her dermatologist for a doctor in network, and we found one, someone who also could get her in right away. Time is of the essence, as we all know, when it comes to cancer. I called the children's hospital to let them know we found a doctor in network, so I would be canceling the appointment. The gal I had been speaking with was happy we found someone and understood 100% why we were canceling. She told me I had enough to worry about; she would reverse/void the transaction, great! Fast forward to three weeks later, Netspend has not refunded my 620 dollars. I have done, along with PHX Children's Hospital, every hoop they asked us to jump through, yet nothing! My husband is at the point where he said, just let it go, lesson learned; we have to focus on our daughter. She has to have surgery on her leg to be sure they got it all. The 620 dollars sure would help. Shame on you, Netspend!
